Dependent Education Information
A&FRC staff will advocate for the educational needs of military children and assist Airmen and families with information and referrals regarding local school districts and other educational options including: home schooling, private schools, charter schools and cyber schools. A&FRC staff will ensure school personnel are aware of the unique issues impacting military children, i.e., deployment, and frequent moves.
Strategies for Success
  1. Maintain a professional and respectful relationship with your child’s teachers—not an adversarial one. View the teachers as partners in your child’s education.
  2. Keep teachers informed of circumstances (e.g., pending separations and reunions; upcoming PCS moves; death in the family, divorce, etc) that may distract your child.
  3. If a problem arises, use the educational “chain of command” beginning with the classroom teacher. Discuss the issue. If it can’t be resolved, then speak with the Assistant Principal, Principal and finally Central Office staff. If the matter is still unresolved, contact the A&FRC at 723-3950.
  4. When settling in a new community, research the local school systems. Look for a good match between what you and your child need and what the schools provide. If you want your child to attend a specific system or school, verify that information with school officials. Do not assume a realtor is correct about where your child will go to school.
